IBM says Sorry Siri

If you work for IBM guess what? Don’t bring your iPhone 4S to work with you. If you decide to bring it anyway you might want to turn off one of its best features. Siri has been blocked at the tech giants offices. Big Blue is concerned that the digital assistant keeps what you say in server somewhere that only Apple has access to. What’s more they are also worried that you might tell her somethings that you should keep to yourself. I am frankly surprised that more companies are not blocking Siri from their networks due to concerns over privacy.

Siri sends anything you ask to a data center in North Carolina. No one knows what Apple is doing with the data. No one knows how the data will be used. No one knows how long the data is kept. The generally thought is that the data is being used to make Siri better but who really knows. Siri is still technically in beta so anything that may or does go wrong can be written off. Apple’s iPhone Software License Agreement clearly says: “When you use Siri or Dictation, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple in order to convert what you say into text,” Apple says. IBM CIO Jeanette Horan said that “The company worries that the spoken queries might be stored somewhere.”
