The Avengers: The hype was spot on (Go see this movie)

The Walt Disney Studios who owns Marvel; announced that “The Avengers” made $200.3 million in its domestic debut May 4-6. The movie Hulk Smashed previous records to become the highest-grossing domestic debut of all time. The global box office gross for the film is an estimated $641.8 million over 12 days in release.

The film had second highest single day of all time at $80.5 million and the highest Saturday’s box office gross of all time with $69.7 million. Not only is this movie making money hand over fist but its actually a very good movie. Critics gave it a perfect A+ CinemaScore. Marvel’s The Avengers is good enough for the fanboys and well written enough for any age to enjoy.

It’s not just the America that is love with the Avengers. Internationally it had the biggest Marvel opening weekend ever in Russia with $17.9 million, China with $17.4 million. The biggest opening weekend of all time in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Philippines

The film’s success only means one thing, sequels. Lots of money making sequels. The following films have them on the way; Captain America is due April 4, 2014. Thor in 2013, and Iron Man on May 3, 2013. I’m sure Walt Disney Studios is glad the scooped up Marvel.

Giants Win Super Bowl again over Favorited Patriots

Quarterback Eli Manning wins his second Super Bowl MVP after leading the Giants to a 21-17 win over the Patriots. Great game. Good job GMan. Good Super Bowl game. For the 1st time in a long time the game was more entertaining than the commercials.

Eli Manning and the Giants for the 2nd time have taken down Tom Brady and the Patriots.  Yes, it took a last-minute touchdown to beat New England 21-17. This is New York’s fourth Super Bowl title and 2nd one at the expense of the Patriots.

Manning became the first QB to open a Super Bowl with nine consecutive completions. Not to be out done, Brady had 16 completions in a row for his own Super Bowl record. In the end though it was Manning who was selected as the MVP.

New England made  mistake by having 12 men on the field on a third-and-3 on which the Giants fumbled. That seemed this be how the game would go for them the whole night. So close yet so far and uncharacteristic mistakes.  The early safety by Brady set into motion a clue of how the game would end. Brady in distress and the ball thrown away to no particular person.

Joe Paterno: Fired from Penn State, The school he built. What is his legacy now?

It had to happen sooner rather than later but no one at the start of the season would have imagined this is how it would end. The house that Joe built has kicked him out to the curb. I will not enter the moral reasons for which he was fired. He should be fired for not following up but let us not forget, he did report it. That is neither here or there. What I will discuss is respect. After so many years and the fact that he was not the one that abused anyone, he should have been allowed to complete the rest of the season. I think 46 years loyalty can buy you just 3 more months.

Paterno won more games than any other major college coach in history. He told a grand jury investigation that when he was informed in 2002 of his assistant coach’s alleged sexual abuse of a boy, he passed the information on to the athletic director but did not follow up. The alleged abuse continued for several more years.

Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky was charged on Saturday with sexually abusing eight young boys over a period of nearly 15 years. Two university officials were also charged with failing to report an incident when it happened in 2002.

Over 1,000 protesting Penn State University students protested on campus yesterday to share that same sentiment. They were chanting “Hell no, Joe won’t go” and “We want Joe back.” One student said: “I think it’s only fair to let him (Paterno) ride out the season because this is the house that Joe built.” Police and state troopers in riot gear attempted to clear the streets.

West Virginia University trying to leave Big East for Big 12

West Virginia University filed a lawsuit Monday seeking an immediate divorce from the Big East so it can become a member of the Big 12 before the 2012 football season. Syracuse and Pittsburgh withdrew from the Big East in September to join the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Big 12 announced West Virginia’s acceptance on Friday but Big East bylaws require notice 27 months before a school can withdraw. The complaint alleges that the Big East agreed to West Virginia’s immediate withdrawal by accepting a $2.5 million down payment on its $5 million exit fee. TCU accepted an invitation to join the Big East in September but switched to the Big 12 in October and was not required to honor the 27-month notice requirement. Big East spokesman Chuck Sullivan said “TCU never started with the Big East because they had not formally joined the conference, which would have been July 1, 2012, they were subject only to the financial component.”

The Big East said:
“We are disappointed that West Virginia has adopted this strategy and cannot imagine why it believes it does not have to respect and honor the bylaws it agreed to as a member of the Big East. Based on an initial review of the lawsuit, it is clear that the allegations and claims in it are false and inaccurate. Certainly there is nothing in it that would justify WVU’s not fulfilling its obligations. To put it simply, a contract is a contract,”

West Virginia’s lawsuit says other Big East football members Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers and Cincinnati have been engaged in discussions with other sports conferences. Pitt and Syracuse left the Big East which left only 6 football members and 8 non-football members. That is an imbalance not contemplated by the bylaws. So when the Big 12 extended its invitation Friday the Mountaineers accepted.

“As the Big East, in less than two months, had denigrated into a non-major football conference whose continued existence is in serious jeopardy, WVU had no choice but to accept the Big XII’s offer,” the lawsuit says.

Sorry Siri; Humans are haters my nature.

Lets get this clear. The iPhone 4S is not the iPhone 5. An iPhone does not get an upgrade a number until it gets a physical upgrade. That said, the iPhone 4S may look like it’s little bother but it is not the same phone. We can talk about having the same chip as the iPad 2. While the A5 does set the iPhone 4S apart from other phones on the market, that is not the best part. Yes, the iPhone 4S has a 8 megapixcell but again that is not the best part. Apple has never been a company to care or Boast about stats. They still have only 512MB of ram on the phone while most smartphones have 1GB.

What Apple has continuously done better than anyone else in the technology sector is enhance whatever is already out there. It does not matter if its a phone, tablet, computer or a service like Siri. All the aforementioned were enhanced dramatically by Apple. That brings us to breakout feature Siri. There are critics out there that will point out the obvious; Siri is a third party app that has been in the AppStore before. The app is doing basically the something it did before.

The thing that separates Siri from it’s past is that the integration is unmatched anywhere on any device. That was a direct knock at those that argue the Android has voice recognition. That comparison is akin to stating a Bose system has speakers. Siri goes beyond simple voice recognition and nears artificial intelligence. Where Google Android phones have a set of pre-defined instructions to trigger actions; Apple’s iPhone 4S Siri understands simple natural language. You don’t have to remember a set of commands.

We are sure Google will update their voice recognition via natural human phrases but it will be a little too late for them by then. There are millions of iPhone 4S owners right now. What they will all tell you is that Siri has become more fun to play with then it is useful. Either way, the phone is a hit. The iPhone 4S has broken the iPhone 4 stats from just a year ago.

Siri is only in beta right now. If this is beta, I for one can not wait until Apple deems it worthy to be considered ready for primetime. The next logical step is integration with other content partners. I see integration with Facebook, Twitter, InstaGram and more. Will there be a need to go to Google if Siri can answer your question on the fly for you? Imagine asking “Who won Super Bowl 24″ and getting an instant answer instead of having to Google it. When that happens, search as we know it will change and Google will start to look like former Titan AOL.

Microsoft has struck deals with over 30 content providers on the Xbox 360. The full list of companies that Microsoft has brought together are leaders in the entertainment industry. Here’s a short list of those that stand out right away:

• Comcast: Only Xfinity On Demand
• Clear Channel: iHeartRadio will be the only digital radio service on Xbox Live, complete with Kinect support. So Last.Fm going away?
• HBO: A new version of the HBO GO
• NBC Universal: Content from Bravo, SyFy and more.
• Manga Entertainment: Very big catalog of streaming anime.
• Crackle: Sony Pictures Entertainment backlog of movies

Mayweather vs. Ortiz: Will this fight save boxing & how social media will help the cause

Boxing has not been talked about in years. The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. promise that Victor Ortiz won’t last the distance. Most analyst agree with “Money” Mayweather. When they meet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena tonight they are calling for a TKO, KO or unanimous decision for the Mayweather camp. Its a pretty safe bet. The ever confident Mayweather who has an unblemished record of 41-0 seems to not be taking any notice of the Ortiz. Treating more like an upstart rather than the champion he is.

This is what it has come to; a reality show. The 24-7 show is not must see tv. It’s more like a infomercial gear at driving up interest in the fight than anything else. It does however have a side effect. How much of a tool Mayweather can be. It also shows the hard work that goes into training for a fight. The show is long and pretty entertaining. Twitter and Facebook already people picking sides. In this day and age we should know each blow as it happens in realtime even if you are not watching the fight. That might be just what the failing sport needs,

The only thing that can help Ortiz win this fight is a “Lucky Punch.” South Paws always have an easy time with righties. The thing is righties get hit up lucky punches all the time from the south paws. Even though Ortiz is 10 years younger and stringer than Mayweather; he is too inexperienced to go through every round with a seasoned champion. The fight will get a lot of buzz and be featured on your twitter feeds as well as the Facebook wall of your friends. In the end it should be a good fight that will help a sport in need.
