Giants Win Super Bowl again over Favorited Patriots

20120205-224039.jpg

Quarterback Eli Manning wins his second Super Bowl MVP after leading the Giants to a 21-17 win over the Patriots. Great game. Good job GMan. Good Super Bowl game. For the 1st time in a long time the game was more entertaining than the commercials.

Eli Manning and the Giants for the 2nd time have taken down Tom Brady and the Patriots.  Yes, it took a last-minute touchdown to beat New England 21-17. This is New York’s fourth Super Bowl title and 2nd one at the expense of the Patriots.

Manning became the first QB to open a Super Bowl with nine consecutive completions. Not to be out done, Brady had 16 completions in a row for his own Super Bowl record. In the end though it was Manning who was selected as the MVP.

New England made  mistake by having 12 men on the field on a third-and-3 on which the Giants fumbled. That seemed this be how the game would go for them the whole night. So close yet so far and uncharacteristic mistakes.  The early safety by Brady set into motion a clue of how the game would end. Brady in distress and the ball thrown away to no particular person.

Super Bowl gets high tech. Streams the game live

20120205-181737.jpg

This year the NFL takes the Super Bowl to the next level. The game will stream live (not really) for the big game.  The stream is on a major delay but gives you 5 views to pick from.

YouTube adds Google + Hangout: Watch videos along with friends. Could Netflix be next?

It seems that you can now watch a video with your friends on Google Plus’ Hangout. It works very similar to Xbox Live’s Movie Party. I was able to get 3 people to Hangout and watch a short clip. It worked very well without any issues.

Once Google + adds business to the to the mix. I see this feature becoming very useful for marking. You could debut a trailer to only very loyal fans or contest winners. Think how this might work for Superbowl ads. You could all do Hangout instead of flooding my inbox with links.  I mean other people’s inboxes with links.
So far I have not been able to find a video that Hangout does not work on. From Tech New Today with Tom to even the very limited movie selection that YouTube has. This is a feature I would love to see come to Netflix. Unlike the Facebook  Like button. The Google + Hangout only goes to who you invite to participate. Thus circumventing the whole its illegal to share the entertainment you rent law that is stopping Netflix from using Facebook.

EA Sports Season Ticket: How to jip your loyal buyers

There has been lots of talk about what Electronic Arts would do with it’s subscription plan. They had to do one. Micro payments and subscriptions are the wave of the future for gaming along with DLC. (Downloadable content) Activision was first to strike with its subscription service called Elite. The thing is that was for Call of Duty where the items on there would be worth it.  The high demand for ways to extend the great multiplayer experience justify the cost of a subscription..

EA Sports Season Ticket on the other had will cost $25 per year. You will be able to get it on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. At the moment you can only use it on EA Sports games.  The only benefit at the moment, if you can call it that; is that you can play Madden 12 a whole 3 days ahead of anyone else. Then you have to go out your house, wait on line with everyone and still buy it. So for more than the price of Nexflix and Hulu Plus combined you are basically paying to play an extended demo.

You will also be able  get a 20% discount on all downloadable content for all EA Sports titles. Like that new color socks or even a helmet.  The games that are covered in this fleecing of the wallet are FIFA, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and NCAA Football.  I said it before 2K Sports made a better game year in and year out. Oh, how I miss them. Don’t get me wrong, I will buy Madden because I have no choice it’s the only NFL game out there.

Are you ready for some football?! The NFL Lockout is over

NFL owners and players have come to their senses.  The lockout is now over. What that means for the players is that they can officially start training camp and ger ready for real games. What that means for owners is that they can start looking at what players they want to pay, trade or just cut. Rookies now actually have jobs.

What that means for us not working for the NFL is that Fantasy Football and Madden 12 are a go. Well EA was going to go ahead with Madden anyway. The end of the lockout is more important is sport sites and entrepreneur.  The lockout has already cost sport sites millions in advertising. Fantasy football is big business. Sites like footballguys.com lives off what happens in the league. They can not relax for the next 10 years.

The lockout on the part of the owners was greed and complete disregard for NFL fans. The owners spent three years preparing for the lockout. The owners also renegotiated network television contracts to require payments to the league during a lockout but did not plan to share that with the players. At no point did they honestly want to work things out until they saw they had no choice.  The owners lost by a rare 9-0 vote in the U.S. Supreme Court.

On the players part they were actually looking out for the less fortunate of the league. Not everyone that plays in the NFL is a star. The practice team, bench warmers and dare I say ‘kickers;’ do not get paid millions. The players decertified and sued the owners even though commissioner Roger Goodell offered the guaranteed annual increase in player salaries in early March.

So what was the end game of all this drama?

For one rookie bonuses and contracts will be reduced with a four-year salary program and a team option on a fifth year. The rookie payment program includes a provision that benefits agents in the third year of a rookie’s contract. Players also got a new program that will give lifetime health insurance. The players and the owners found a way to both pay the players increased salaries and allow for increasing profits for owners.

NFL Draft does go on. As expected after months of speculation the Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton is the number 1 pick..

NFL Draft does go on. As expected after months of speculation the Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton is the number 1 pick. The Carolina Panthers drafted Newton, making him their next franchise QB.

There was a lot of criticism about his accuracy and “character issues. Nevertheless  Newton will now have his chance to prove everyone wrong much the way Vick did when he came back after jail time. As soon as this whole NFL lockout issues get resolved he will start training with the team.

Class Action lawsuit against EA for Madden games. Why didn’t 2K Sports do this years ago?

A tip came in about EA getting a hit with a lawsuit for unfair practices when it comes to the Madden games. I was very surprised. Not that it was filed but that it was not 2K Sports. They were at one point very strong competition for EA Sports with their 2K Football series. Some would say they had a better and lower cost to buy product then EA. That rivalry was cut short when EA paid for an exclusive license to the NFL & NFLPA.  I love Madden and I’m one of those that get it every year. I need my football fix but it was nice to at least have a choice.  I harp on Madden because that is what I play but the suit is because the whole football market is under license by EA. They have exclusive licenses for the  NFL, NCAA and even AFL. There is more information at EA Sports Litigation. Let’s see if this goes anywhere.

Here is the Lawsuit:

GEOFFREY PECOVER and ANDREW OWENS v. ELECTRONIC ARTS INC.

Plaintiffs, purchasers of Electronic Arts’ football video games, claim that Defendant Electronic Arts entered into a series of exclusive licenses with the National Football League (NFL), National Football League Players’ Association (NFLPA), National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), and Arena Football League (AFL), which Plaintiffs claim foreclosed competition in an alleged football video game market. Plaintiffs allege that this series of exclusive licenses caused customers who purchased certain football video games to be overcharged.
Defendant Electronic Arts has denied any liability and all allegations of misconduct. The Court has not decided whether the Defendants did anything wrong, and this Notice is not an expression of any opinion by the Court about the merits of any of the claims or defenses asserted by any party to this litigation.

2K Sports shows off Serena William’s sexy moves in a new ad but she did not authorize it

2K sports has released a new Serena Williams ad. The thing is it is a way bit too sexy. So they are claiming that it is unauthorized. Humm, that seems a bit odd with a new tennis game coming out.  I will say that is a great way to sell a game. Good job 2K sports. Now only if you would get the NFL back from EA Sports. I miss the competition.

Green Bay Packers Steel it away from Pittsbugh; Win Super Bowl 31-25

Those that thought this was going to be a low scoring game were mistaken. The Green Bay Packers have showed why all but the loyal Bradshaw picked them to win today. Their offence seems to be able steam roll right over that Steelers defence.

To make matters worse the Steelers offence is still in Pittsburgh somewhere because they sure didn’t act like they came to play today.

By halftime it was 21-10. Although that score is not really reflective of the man handling that Green Bay did in the half. Woodson appeared to injure his left collarbone in the second quarter. The injuries to him and Shields left the Packers vulnerable on a scoring drive by Pittsburgh that cut Green Bay’s lead to 21-10 at the half.

Pittsburgh made a show of it the 2nd half but it was too little to late. This was Green Bay’s fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and captured another with Brett Favre in January 1997. Rodgers was named MVP. This should take him out of the big shadow of his predecessor Brett Favre.

How will you watch the Super Bowl XLV?

Thank you to Mashable.com for giving us something to think about. Here I was thinking house party or BW3′s. Who knew I had other options.  Although I would use an iPad before an iPhone for the game.
