Tweet from Siri
It is looking very good for the world of Siri. I can not wait to see what comes out next for it.
Siri, Start my car
It was so nice to have the extra days off last week. Let’s get back to the grind. You already know that Siri can operate an internet-connected thermostat through some nice hacking but now one person has taken it one step forward with a practical device.
Developer Brandon Fiquett enabled Siri to talk to his car. Siri can now remotely start its engine. The way it works is his iPhone 4S sends a message to a proxy server he set up. The server sends a message to a cellular-connected Viper Smart Start system in his car. This trick should work with any car that has a viper smart start system.
Siri start my car. I wonder what is next? Siri type this report. It’s only a matter of time before more hacks get released. Siri is akin to Kinect in terms of being embraced by the media, independent developers and hackers.
How to use iPhone 4S Siri to send Twitter and Facebook post.
To send a message to Facebook is straight forward. The steps a below easy to do. In 3 steps you will be able to Post to Facebook with just the sound of your voice.
Post to Twitter on the on the other had is not as simple. Any mention of the word Twitter will cause Siri to remind you it can not send tweets. The work around is similar to the Facebook one but 1 extra step is added in.
Is there a Apple 4S Siri Security flaw?
Siri works and works very well. Consider this service is still in bata form. There are however some issues with functionality. The service was down over the weekend due to too much stress on the network. At least that is the thinking of the masses since Apple has not released a official statement about the matter.
This new issue that some are calling a security flaw is over hyped as much as antenna gate was. While the phone is locked with or without a pass code Siri will function. This is very helpful but can lead to some issues. Such as a person saying call come or where do I live. Pretty much everything Siri can do will work even if your phone is locked. With the iPhone 4S setting a pass code is not enough.
I can’t really call this a Siri security problem but I do recommend following the steps below to cover yourself. I am sure Apple has it working by default for ease of use but not everyone will use this feature for good. You can disable Siri from working when the iPhone is locked by doing the following.
That is it Siri will no longer work when your phone is locked.
Sorry Siri; Humans are haters my nature.
Lets get this clear. The iPhone 4S is not the iPhone 5. An iPhone does not get an upgrade a number until it gets a physical upgrade. That said, the iPhone 4S may look like it’s little bother but it is not the same phone. We can talk about having the same chip as the iPad 2. While the A5 does set the iPhone 4S apart from other phones on the market, that is not the best part. Yes, the iPhone 4S has a 8 megapixcell but again that is not the best part. Apple has never been a company to care or Boast about stats. They still have only 512MB of ram on the phone while most smartphones have 1GB.
What Apple has continuously done better than anyone else in the technology sector is enhance whatever is already out there. It does not matter if its a phone, tablet, computer or a service like Siri. All the aforementioned were enhanced dramatically by Apple. That brings us to breakout feature Siri. There are critics out there that will point out the obvious; Siri is a third party app that has been in the AppStore before. The app is doing basically the something it did before.
The thing that separates Siri from it’s past is that the integration is unmatched anywhere on any device. That was a direct knock at those that argue the Android has voice recognition. That comparison is akin to stating a Bose system has speakers. Siri goes beyond simple voice recognition and nears artificial intelligence. Where Google Android phones have a set of pre-defined instructions to trigger actions; Apple’s iPhone 4S Siri understands simple natural language. You don’t have to remember a set of commands.
We are sure Google will update their voice recognition via natural human phrases but it will be a little too late for them by then. There are millions of iPhone 4S owners right now. What they will all tell you is that Siri has become more fun to play with then it is useful. Either way, the phone is a hit. The iPhone 4S has broken the iPhone 4 stats from just a year ago.
Siri is only in beta right now. If this is beta, I for one can not wait until Apple deems it worthy to be considered ready for primetime. The next logical step is integration with other content partners. I see integration with Facebook, Twitter, InstaGram and more. Will there be a need to go to Google if Siri can answer your question on the fly for you? Imagine asking “Who won Super Bowl 24″ and getting an instant answer instead of having to Google it. When that happens, search as we know it will change and Google will start to look like former Titan AOL.
